A new, faster editing system

The standard editing system is too slow. I take 30,000 to 50,000 game photos each Velocity season, and I'm a bit of an overthinking perfectionist when it comes to culling & editing photos. Plus professional photographers aren't supposed to show all of their photos (or unedited photos in general), just the top shots and only after they've been polished up. That all involves countless decisions and adjustments, resulting in a serious backlog of unedited memories.

So I sat down with some coaches/parents in July and we started brainstorming. Their ideas were great and we are ready to roll out some changes!

Instead of meticulous culling and adjusting with hopes of getting a few images posted someday, I'll be prioritizing speed and efficiency. Delivering within days instead of months.

What to expect

In case you're interested, here are some differences to expect:

Lower prices. In exchange for you sifting through more photos and not calling the camera police on me, we're dropping the price significantly.
Similar photos. I set my cameras for high speed shooting, so it's difficult to take less than 2 photos each time I press the shutter release. In the past, I would spend much time reducing these duplicates.
Unbalanced numbers of photos per player. I try to keep it somewhat equal, but longer at bats and some defensive positions naturally result in more photos. In the new system, I will not reduce the extras very much.
Less cropping and straightening. This can greatly affect the dramatic impact of the photos, especially on smaller screens, so I may do some of it in the new system.
Bad photos might sneak through. I'm still doing some quick culling to remove obvious technical misses and awkward expressions, but a few may sneak through. Feel free to send file names my way if you'd like them removed (this is a perfect use case for the Favorites feature in your photo collections: you can easily create and name additional lists -- such as a "Photo Duds" list -- and share them directly with me so that I can remove them).
Variations in lighting and colors. I am doing some manual and automatic fixes to the images, including color temperatures and general exposures, but mostly in batches. Variations should be expected.

Accessing your team's game photos

Each team will have a dedicated game photo collection for each season, with unique links and passwords. Follow the link, enter your email address and the team/season password, and you will be able to view, favorite, and/or purchase high resolution files (without the watermark).

You'll find your season/team link(s) and password(s) in the Photography > Game Photos section of your Parent Portal.

We are starting with links for this season and last (where applicable), but may roll out prior seasons if there is interest.

I've been working on a consolidating your photos into a single, easy to access system. As of May 2025, we are live!

You can also order prints from within your individual photo collections.

Consolidated Photo Folders

All Your Individual Portraits in One Folder

Over time, it gets tricky to keep track of multiple links to your personal Velocity images. To make it simpler to access past, present, and future photos, I’ve begun consolidating player galleries into a individual photo folders. Your new folder includes some default collections as well collections for any unique photo sessions you may choose:

Ready to Print Designs (default)
Banner Proofs (default)
Sportraits (optional)
Senior Portraits (optional)
Player Focused Game Photos (optional)
...and more!

You’ll find your personal folder link and password in your Parent Portal. I've set random passwords to begin, but can change it to whatever you'd like upon request.

Online Orders

Online Orders & Reprints of Previous Photos

Your photo galleries now include the ability to preview and order current Banner Day photos, in addition to other past images (assuming you've been part of previous Banner Days, Sportrait Sessions, Senior Portraits, etc.). Look for the "Ready to Print" collection or specific photo session collections, make your selections, and check out.

To access your photo collections, follow the instructions above ("Access your Consolidated Photo Folder").

Want to order a different Banner Day pose or a custom design?

No problem!

Log in to your Banner Day proof gallery.
Add your alternate pose(s) to the cart and check out.
I’ll take care of the Photoshop setup and retouching.
Once completed, the new designs will appear in your Ready to Print collection and you'll be able to order prints.

You're still welcome to order directly through me if you'd like. Once we've talked it over, I'll prepare an invoice for you which can be paid online, through the mail, or in person.

Shipping Options

Have your standard print order shipped directly to you for $10 or choose the "No Rush" option and save the shipping charges. If you choose the free option, we will arrange pickup once the order arrives.

Note that the free "No Rush" shipping option allows me to combine orders from my lab to avoid minimum order charges and additional shipping fees. Because of this, orders may not be printed as quickly as a direct shipping order.

Session Options

You can select a lower-priced session (with the opportunity to expand it after photo proofs are ready) or a deluxe session (with more time and additional options included at a discount).

The standard Mini-Session includes:

15 minute photo session
Password-protected photo gallery
3 Hi-res photo files from the session (your choice) with personal usage license (make your own prints and photo products)
The ability to purchase additional files and/or prints after viewing your proofs

The Deluxe Mini-Session includes:

20 minute photo session
Password-protected photo gallery
Hi-res files of all session photos (typically 10-20) with personal usage license
3 Prints: One 8x10 and Two 5x7s, your choice of image(s)

Planning and Preparations

Outfits & Props: You can wear uniforms and fastpitch gear, outfits related to another sport or hobby, or your favorite clothing. Mix it up with jersey & jeans or a dress with bat & ball. It's your call!

Image Types: We can focus on dramatic lighting, smoke & colored lights, or some of each. Check out the sample sportraits for a few potential looks.

Poses: Your ideas are welcome, but no pressure! I'll be prepared to coach you through various poses & looks if you prefer.

Consultations: Our time on the 29th and 30th will be limited, but feel free to reach out to me and arrange a discussion in the weeks before the photo-sessions. I would be glad to plan out your portrait session ahead of time!
